Let Muscular be the New Skinny
In all the animals of the kingdom which one do we like admire when it that has its ribs showing? I know when I see a horse whether a mare, gelding or stallion I want to see muscle. If I see ribs I think unhealthy, sick, abused etc. So why is it within our culture that skinny became such a desired goal?
In the early days of the entertainment world models were selected to show off clothes. Models that were tall and skinny to keep the focus on the clothes. But guess what, we focused on this new look and wanted it. In the dance world, skinny and strong, talented with long straight lines of beauty became the fashion. But it wasn't always that way not even in dance. Choreographer Balanchine preferred a new look for dancers long, thin bodies, very thin. This mindset is still throughout Hollywood and portrayed as a preferred option to many young woman and girls.
With that said, let us look forward to what we can change. That is the future perception of women. Our bodies are designed to be strong. Strong is beautiful, it is magnificent in all creatures including people. Building strength is a positive experience and any one who tells you that you will look masculine is wrong. You will look strong and strong is beautiful. Healthy fitness needs to embrace the strength of the feminine body. The feminine body is to be the bold, beautiful body God created it to be.
When each of us looks in the mirror or at another woman let us embrace strength. We have often been overlooked for our physical attributes. But let us not overlook ourselves! Develop yourself in all ways to be the strongest and most talented that you can be. Do not let social norms hold you back from your strength, develop it to the highest ability you can. Strong is beautiful.
